Ballet technique, contemporary, stretch & strength, posture placement, dance vocabulary and musicality.
The summer dance programs will have a strong classical ballet emphasis with the support of stretch and strength. Creative instruction will be given to explore and refine the classical movements with sensitivity to each students particular physical requirements. The classes will focuses on proper and safe body alignment and posture stabilizers. The techniques that are taught in the program are progressive. It will give the student a strong technical base plus increase their range of motion and overall flexibility.
Programs are held at The Scotiabank Dance Centre studios at the Yaletown downtown location 677 Davie Street.
All students that are interested in auditioning for the ITP (ages 10-17yrs) full-time 2018/2019 season will be observed through the month of May & June 2018 programming in our regular classes. Please notify us of your interests for the (ITP) Intensive Training Program.
CHILDREN & INTENSIVE TRAINING PROGRAMS
Currently all our Children’s programming and Intensive Training Programs will not running during summer months as our DLDC students have been encouraged to participate in other International and National programs outside of our regular training to gain further experiences and opportunities to train with other professors and educators. If your dancer wishes to audition for our Fall 2018/2019 Intensive Training Programs, private auditions will be available for the month of May & June 2018. Please contact us for more information.
ADULT / TEEN OPEN PROGRAMS – The Dance Centre (677 Davie Street)
Advance Beginner Ballet
For those that have very basic ballet training or little ballet training. This is the class for you!
Students will be reviewing the basic standing postures, body alignment, pre-liminary dance techniques, positions and dance movement vocabulary. The student will be able to develop strength and overall simple flexibility. Class is focused on proper and safe techniques to carry the individual to the next level of learning. Students that have danced before recreationally as a young child and have little or some memory of the use of classical muscle techniques or vocabulary, this is a great class for you to refresh! Mixed age groups all accepted.
Thursday 6:30-8:00pm (CLASSES WILL NOT BE IN SESSION FOR 2018)
Ballet – (Open Level) Level 1 & Level 2 (must have previous ballet experience)
Fundamentals and basic technique is always reviewed and stressed in this program with continual development of dance movement vocabulary and longer combinations at the barre and center practice. Travelling and linking steps together along with pirouettes from a travelling preparation will be taught along with progressive allegro work carry the student into simple grand allegro ballet movements. Review and drilling of allegro will be the strongly focused to move the student forward to the next level where you can combine the allegro work together and start to feel more confident. Understanding the use of major and micro muscles will be emphasized to maximize your bodies potential. Musicality will also be an important focus for this level to understand the how to use the music to help you dance classical ballet with lyrical qualities and ease of movement to advance your studies.

Ballet – Open Level 2/3 (must have previous ballet experience)
This encouraging and challenging progressive ballet class will introduce the true training of ballet technique. It will not only develop the eager student‘s athleticism but also their appreciation for the art of classical ballet. Emphasis of safe correct body alignment, development of physical strength and flexibility will be progressed throughout the session.

Ballet – Beginner Pointe 1 / Demi-pointe 1 (Student must have permission from the instructor to participate in pointe shoes. All other student at minimum level of an advance beginner level and above may participate in the classes in demi-pointe shoes.)
Beginner level for students that are physically ready to dance on pointe. The student usually start off on demi-pointe with the instructor before they are allowed to dance on pointe. The dancer must be able to execute all levels of demi-pointe of their regular dance technique classes before they are ready to do pointe work for the very first time. The dancer must be able to hold their turn out properly with good body alignment and placement with a strong classical movement vocabulary. Proper pointe alignment, strength and movement with two feet to two feet footwork will be the focus at this level. (Please note all students must be fully warmed up before taking this class. Previous ballet technique class scheduled is highly advisable.)
Wednesday 8:00 – 8:30pm (CLASSES WILL NOT BE IN SESSION FOR 2018)
Ballet – Pointe 2 / Demi-pointe (Student must have permission from the instructor to participate in pointe shoes. All other student at minimum level of an advance beginner level and above may participate in the classes in demi-pointe shoes.)
A progression from beginner pointe where the student will be focusing on two feet to one foot exercises such as pas de bourre pique, retire and pose along with turns. Students will have the opportunity to build their strength and link their steps together into center practice without the use of the barre. (Please note all students must be fully warmed up before taking this class. Previous ballet technique class scheduled is highly advisable.)
